About the Project

Some sites ask for a house that simply sits on the land. This one asked for a lookout. Our client wanted to see through the coastal trees to the beach and the iconic Haystack Rock, so we designed the home around a watchtower.

The tower rises above the surrounding canopy to open a clear view of Haystack Rock and the Pacific. From the top, the ocean and the rock are framed from every angle, turning the home’s highest point into its favorite room.

Window placement drove the whole design. Each opening was positioned for both the view and natural daylight, so the rooms below the tower stay bright and connected to the forest and coastline around them.

At about 2,200 square feet, the Watch Tower House shows how a single strong idea can shape a custom home on the Oregon Coast. If you have a site with a view worth building around, we’d love to help you design for it.
